Good cat nominations - recognising members

if you hold NFT airdrop from Planetary calls does that considered to be a good cat or not?

Might be worth including in your application

I’m a relatively combative person with often strong opinions and despite any contributions I have made I am always unlikely to be part of a peer to peer cartel of praise.

This kind of peer nomination in my opinion pushes towards mediocrity and people who post very milquetoast inoffensive opinions and try to remain on good terms with everyone else and build a network rather than try to actually move the needle or honestly for better or worse judge issues within the ecosystem.

There are people I can think of who certainly deserve the recognition like JUPWhale that I think most people would emphasize, but I don’t necessarily think this is a good way of rewarding users and as @miuq said this is an easily gamed system. Even someone like JUPWhale who I think made large contributions I would often strongly disagree with while others might choose to moderate their tone and opinions to network build. Ultimately I don’t think this is any better or deserving of more rewards for the community.

I didn’t personally stay here all year trying to build connections and I’m not saying anyone at the Jupiter team even saw my posts, but the way the allocation is beginning to shape up seems incredibly similar to the ethos I was trying to emphasize, avoiding linearity for the most part, modest staker allocation, heavy USER allocation, higher eligibility requirements and tier systems for volume over linear.

Ultimately I just see this favouring influencers, friends of influencers and people with very moderate opinions who try to be friendly to everyone no matter what, none of this is positive from my perspective.

So far everything the Jupiter team has done as been great, I trust them far more than I do users who are incentive to create these little cartels who are ultimately going to try and game the system for a bigger allo.

I acknowledge there may be benefits to this system and total cynicism isn’t right here, but generally I think the self-nomination system is going to be much more accurate in terms of real contribution.

Make your case for good cats rewards with all these when the good cat forms becomes available.

Where can we self report. Was wondering for a friend lol

I think people should nominate themselves not just for the reasons you mentioned. Personally I think we don’t want it to be a popularity contest. The team has hinted many times that self nominations are what they would like to go for.

We don’t know yet but I bet we will soon. The good cats allocation won’t be released the same time as the most of Jupuary. Not sure when the form for reporting contributions open but I guess somewhere in January.

Like I’ve said though, connections won’t mean shit.

If there is no evidence then they aren’t a good cat.

It’s all about CONTRIBUTING not about who’s been nice or agreed with opinion.

People can form groups all they like but if there is no evidence they have done anything then the submission will be void

I’m not sure I see a difference then between nomination and self-nomination.

I also think if someone believes they made a reasonable contribution, they will self-nominate and I don’t really see why that would make a difference to if a bunch of other people they may be friends with or in a Discord with should have any effect.

I understand the point that it still has to be evidence based but in that case I don’t see an important distinction between either of these.

Personally I just think I’d leave it to the team and their selection criteria.

Not strongly against it but I don’t see a good reason for this and do still think it leans towards benefiting factional activity rather than individual contribution. Also my guess is if 10 people nominated one person that might be a consideration for an allo outside of going over every single one of their posts on all apps/forums if we are being realistic about how this will be approached.

Yeah I respect your opinion

Either way I’m stoked that good cat has returned for jupuary

It’s important to recognise those who have made JUP what it is today without any financial contribution

Maybe self nomination will still be more okay and time saving compared to peer nominations, wether this will be plain or not

It will favor some( that may not even worth the nomination but cos of influence compared to others)
Since the proposed form for Good cat will be free for all , same we had it last year, private individuals that think they worth good cat should put out their contributions to the Jupiverse and if it worth to be ā€œgood catsā€ contribution, it will be

Peer nomination will still just be repeating what ā€œthe person nominated by the peer already did as self nominationā€

AFAIC, self nomination is great , similar with good cat application of last year

Even CAWG can make of form from last year

I’m curious to see whether the JUP Research forum and irl contributions (reffering and updating friends) will count. In terms of irl friends, I would have 8 people testify the above stated.

I would consider my profile on X a classic ā€œreply guyā€ profile that is not influential, my Discord activity on a really low levels (considering that I do not use it for updates of any sort and I do not hang out there). Wonder if it will be mandatory to show proof of X/Discord contributions.
