Proposal: Text Message Alerts for Jupiter DAO Updates and Proposals (From an Enthusiast, Not a Techie!)

Hey Jupiverse, Let’s Make Voting Easier!
I’m putting forward a proposal to add text message (SMS) alerts for new updates, proposals, and voting deadlines. I want this to be an opt-in option alongside the email notifications we already have, because I’ve been missing votes and it’s costing me $JUP tokens—and I know I’m not the only one!

Why This Matters to Me (and Probably You Too)
I’m swamped with life right now—between a crazy legal case, lawyers, and just trying to keep my head above water, I’ve missed two or three votes because the email notifications either went to my junk folder or I just didn’t see them. I’m sure others are in the same boat, especially if you’re as busy as I am. I love being part of Jupiter DAO and I want to keep voting to earn those extra $JUP tokens (got big plans for healing centers!), but I need a better way to stay in the loop. Text messages are quick, they pop up on my phone, and I don’t miss them. This could help all of us stay engaged, vote more, and make the Jupiverse even stronger, which might even boost $JUP’s value in the long run.

What I’m Proposing

  • Let’s add an opt-in text message system where we can sign up with our phone numbers on the vote page.

  • Send us texts for new proposals, voting start and end dates, and important updates.

  • Use DAO funds (or maybe a tiny opt-in fee) to cover the costs, since we’ve got over 300K voters and I know that can add up.

  • Make sure it’s all private and follows the law—I don’t want my info out there, and neither do you!

A Little Tech Help (I’m Not a Coder, But I Asked Grok!)
I’m not a tech person by any means—just an enthusiast who wants to see the Jupiverse thrive. But I asked Grok for some ideas on how we could make this happen in a cost-effective way, and it came up with not one, but two suggestions that the Devrel team (or whoever’s good with tech) can use or build on. Here’s what Grok suggested:

Suggestion 1: Use Twilio for SMS (Grok’s First Idea)
Grok says we can use a service called Twilio to send text messages—it’s affordable (like $0.0075 per text in the US) and can handle a big community like ours. Here’s a simple Python script they can start with:

python

Grok says this can be hooked into the DAO’s system to send texts whenever there’s a new proposal or vote. It’s a starting point, and the tech team can make it even better.

Suggestion 2: Use AWS SNS for SMS (Another Option Grok Suggested)
Grok also mentioned we could use Amazon Web Services (AWS) Simple Notification Service (SNS) as another cheap option—it’s around $0.01 per text, but sometimes even less depending on the region. Here’s a Python script for that:

python

Grok says AWS SNS is super scalable and can handle our big voter base. The tech team can pick whichever option (Twilio or AWS SNS) works best for the DAO’s budget and setup.

What’s Next?
If this proposal gets a thumbs-up from the community, I’d love for a Working Group (maybe Devrel?) to take these ideas and run with them. They can figure out the timeline and budget in a follow-up proposal. I just want to make sure we all have a better shot at voting and staying in the loop—let’s make the Jupiverse the best it can be!

I think it’s a good proposal. I also missed some voting due to caring for a family member who was suffering from cancer, and I didn’t have my computer or time to connect to the DAO. To start, since it involves investment, it could be done only at the opening of the voting process, with a link to the purpose being voted on, and 24 hours after the closing of the voting. Similarly, notifications could be implemented through the mobile app, though I don’t know if this option already exists. Other types of notifications of interest to the DAO could be implemented to streamline the flow of information.
